National Directory of Instructors |
1) Desire. You feel intrigued, you feel a tug towards something. You're here because you're interested in drawing. You have an inkling you'd like to learn how or you just plain have to learn to draw. Being somewhere on that "desire" spectrum, well that's a very important prerequisite that will help dictate your success. What we're looking for here is one thing (to start) that gets your juices going again, gets you excited. Because once you've found that, you've cracked open the door to whole new way of living.
3) Support. That's right, plain old everyday support - that we all see less and less of. Support comes in all shapes and sizes: a simple nod from your uncle, or a trusted associate at work who asks every month or two "how's the drawing going?". Support comes with involvement. And I think if I can get you involved, I can get you drawing caricatures. And that's the key to doing anything. Think about it. You don't have to feel great to get yourself to work in the morning, right? In fact, if you're like 90 % of the population, (and this is a sad figure) you dread going to work 4 out of 5 days a week. That's tragic. But the point is, you get there, right? You don't have to feel great to get it done.
You also pay your taxes, feed your kids, get your homework
done, keep the house cleaned, pay the bills, right? Why? Because
you love your kids, you'll lose your job if you don't go to work,
they'll cut off the phone, the heat, the utilities if you don't
pay the bills, the IRS will come looking for you if you don't
pay your taxes...lots of "sticks" out there just waiting
to take a whack at you! And the thought of that is just
too painful to consider. (I heard somewhere people prefer a heart
attack over an IRS audit!) How we can help get you drawing... Now nothing can duplicate a live classroom. And why does that work so well? Well if you can get yourself as far as the classroom, you've got someone to answer to. You've got a group to cheer you on. You get both the carrot and the stick. You get live demonstrations and instant feedback. So we've asked ourselves "what's second best?" and we've come up with different levels of support. Some people need more, some people need less. Some people are real independent. They're driven and motivated. For them, having access to a plan, a lesson library, and just a handful of resources, well that's all they need to take off. (Yes, there're people out there like that!) The next group, is the "somewhat motivated group". These people are motivated, but they're a little less fearless, a little more fearful, but they still get things done. For them all they need is just a little extra pinch - like being directed to do specific things, like schedule time to get their drawing done. For them, simple things like a downloadable clock will be enough "stick" for them. They can knock off 60 minutes of drawing time 3 days a week. That's all they'll need to get drawing. That'll get them through. Coming soon... Others need more support than that: like a group to answer to, a group to commiserate with. And for them, they need to get some form of small feedback - in real time (not necessarily face to face). For this group, (after we get all the lessons written and uploaded), we're going to adapt the concept of "Success Teams" for drawing lessons on the internet - so you can find time, a team, and someone to answer to right there from your home. And the last group: those who're really frustrated and just can't get going unless you have a classroom. For those of you who fit this category (and we all do at one time or another...course we don't always want to admit it) we're going to construct a national directory of teachers and drawing instructors familiar with "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" (DRSB) techniques. These are people who're experts in teaching the foundation skills of drawing, they're familiar with the blocks people encounter when learning to draw - and they know how to get you past them. And hopefully, you'll be able to one right in your area.
To really get you drawing, I need to engage you, get you immersed
- I want to construct a place where you can find a stockpile,
a "federal reserve" of references, jam-packed
with information - tips on caricature and drawing technique,
tips on getting you flipping at ease from "right"
and "left" brain "modes", approaches to
learning, an anatomy library, computer graphics
applications, lists where renowned teachers are
giving classes all over the world, links to other sites
where caricature artists -or (any kind of artists
for that matter,) can be looked up if you want to hire them,
or cross-sell, or trade know-how, or even marketing information.
The list of things is growing all the time...
