Physician Assistant position in urban emergency department, university, or urgent care setting. Seek to use and expand experience in urgent/emergency care, utilize fluency in Spanish to contribute to effectiveness of an emergency, internal medicine, or urgent care team. _____________________________________________________________________________

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND DEVELOPMENT

COLUMBIA PARK MEDICAL GROUP (February 2002 to present)

Work in all three of Columbia Parks three Urgent Care Centers (Fridley Plaza, Andover Park and Brooklyn Park); work independently seeing all ages and acuity's of patient complaints: from chest pain, s.o.b., minor trauma, abdominal pain, lightheaded / dizziness, vaginal bleeding, ECG and X-ray ordering interpretation etc. Large number of geriatric patients at the Fridley Plaza (75% of hours), more intensely pediatrics at the Andover Park clinic. Large number of Ob/Gyn patients.

LONG BEACH MEMORIAL MEDICAL CENTER, Premier Southern California, Inner City Level I Trauma Center, Long Beach, CA January, 1995 - January 2002

EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT
The emergency department (ED) staff of this 729 - bed comprehensive medical center provide care for 100,000 patient visits per year. The department serves a mixed population composed of inner city, MediCal, Spanish-speaking, prepaid group, workers' compensation and work injury patients.

Emergency Department /Urgent Care Physician Assistant
Staff employee full-time 1995 - January 2002 in high volume Minor Care Center (MCC), a fast-track auxiliary urgent care facility annexed to the main ED and in the main ED. (Shares ED staff). Patient acuity in the MCC is low to moderate but adjusts to higher acuity depending on volume. PA's practice with high degree of independence. High concentration in pediatrics, minor to intermediate trauma, orthopedics.

Other more specific type cases encountered:

* non life-threatening to life-threatening trauma, mild to severe asthma, (peds to adult), non life-threatening gynecologic/STD cases, childhood infectious diseases, joint taps, all forms of wound care from simple to extensive - acute simple to complex facial and deep tissue extremity lacerations, digital amputation, penetrating wounds, I and D of abscesses (e.g., skin infection, pilonidal cysts, thrombosed hemorrhoids etc.), high degree of slit lamp expertise; abdominal pain, vag. bleeding;
* appropriate lab test / X-ray ordering, interpretation and treatment formulation;
* management and oversight of health care team ensuring smooth functioning between medical, nursing, e.m.t., in-house, referral and radiology tech staff;
* bedside teaching of third year pediatric, family practice, and podiatry residents beginning Spring of 1998.

WATTS HEALTH FOUNDATION (WHF), Los Angeles, CA
( November 1992 - 95 full -time; per diem 1995 until January 2002)
One of nation's largest community health care clinics serving a multicultural, inner-city population.

Staff Physician Assistant
Full-time member of C.A.R.E. (Community Access and Resource Extender) Team, a division within WHF November, 1992 to February, 1995. Part-time 1995 to 2002. Reported to Medical Director, C.A.R.E. Team. (cont. next page)

Pediatric Mobile Primary Care, January, 1994 to January, 1995
Performed school physicals, citywide immunization programs, well-child assessments, general health screenings and primary care. Conducted simple laboratory tests including hemoglobin,
lead-level monitoring, and urinalyses. Managed conditions such as acute asthma exacerbation, to light trauma. Delivered health education in Spanish and English.

* Participated in Northridge Earthquake Relief effort.
* Provided care from the Pediatric Mobile Unit at WIC sites throughout Los Angeles County.

Adult Primary Care, November, 1992 to January 1994
Delivered adult homeless primary care. Conducted assessments for occupational disability and performed substance abuse confrontation. Performed health care services for the multicultural population served under the L. A. Department of Social Services General Relief Work and Health Assessment Program.

* Exceeded all patient quotas.
* Determined extent and class of medical/drug addiction problems from physical signs.
* Developed expertise in confronting patients humanely and diplomatically when the
clinical interpretation of the problem differed markedly from the patient explanation .
* Decided appropriate patient treatment plans.
* Developed sensitivity to cultural diversities and their implications.
